Hmmm. Not sure where you get that one. The ONLY way that any organization gets to "take one's money" is to provide real solutions to people who are willing to pay for them. It isn't "take", it's "exchange".
From your question, you aren't really in the market for what they solve anyway, you are just trying to learn the product, and that's fine. It's GREAT, actually, and please do feel welcome to the community. Take all the time you need and get to know the community, the product, and the solutions that the product does provide. Then you can move on to the next level.
Now, regarding your initial question, if you are truly looking for "personal use", then you don't need the Enterprise features that are kept out of the free versions. Just start with the plain vanilla free free version and learn the query language and the basic features. If you happen to go over the 500M in any given day, it's not a tragedy. The system will give you a nastygram that will go away in a couple of weeks. You have to get a few such warnings in a row for the system to do anything about it, and under normal circumstances, for personal training usage, you aren't going to get close.
