I just installed splunk on solaris 9, and it appeared to install properly. However, when I go to the login page, it just spins and I never get the opportunity to login - nothing ever appears.
8000 shouldn't be an issue, and it says ok when I start splunk. This is the free version - would that make a difference? I'm a total newbie...
well splunk has no way of knowing whether iptables is letting anything through. It really does sound like you havent opened port 8000. Some ways to confirm: If you look in $SPLUNK_HOME/var/log/splunk/web_service.log and there's no errors, and you look in $SPLUNK_HOME/var/log/splunk/web_access.log and there's no sign of anyone trying to hit the /login page, then nothing's getting through.
If the login form never appears at all is it possible you just haven't configured iptables to allow tcp on port 8000?
