Aaron ... Correct! You win. 🙂
I was able to fix my botched install here, but still had the wonky login screen. I removed the mobile app, and presto! Login page is showing correctly now.
Thanks!

resolved the issue by removing the mobile app.
Hi ...
This may or may not be the answer you are looking for, however I faced the same issue on a lab implementation of Splunk5 when I moved to Splunk6. In my case, I found after comparing the files in a generic Splunk6 installation to what I tried to upgrade (5.x to 6.0) that there were many "extra" files. Whoops ... that's not right.
So, under further examination, it appears as though this (in my case) was self-inflicted. Somehow, when I untar'd the MacOS (OS I am testing on) tarball, it created the typical Splunk directory WITHIN the target Splunk directory. What I was left with was the following:
/Applications/splunk/etc ...
/Applicaitons/splunk/splunk/etc ...
And the two installs then were all munged together. A mess. I rolled back to a backup of my Splunk5 install and tried again, being very careful to make sure the target for the tarball was correct. All is well.
Thanks for the feedback. I checked the directory structure and where I untarred everything and it appears to be correct. Any other ideas of what could be going on?
