I don't understand your description about being redirected when selecting "snmp_ta" from the list of Applications. Can you please provide a more thorough description of the exact steps performed ?

After you install the SNMP Modular Input and restart Splunk , you should then navigate to Data Inputs->SNMP to setup your configuration.

below is the step:
1. login to splunk web console
2. From the upper Left Corner, click "Apps" right beside the "Splunk >".
3. select "snmp_ta"

after selecting "snmp_ta" i am redirected to "Monitoring of Java Virtual Machines with JMX".

Also, I tried to navigate to Data inputs but cannot find SNMP from there.
I can only see the following:
- Files&directories
- TCP
- UDp
- Scripts
- Database Inputs

If you cant see SNMP under Data Inputs, then you may not have installed it correctly.
All you need to do is to untar the spl file you download from Splunkbase to etc/apps and restart Splunk, simple.

Also , do you have DB Connect installed ? There used to be a bug whereby DB Connect would cause any other Modular Input not to show up under Data Inputs ,although you can still manually browse to it : http://localhost:8000/en-US/manager/launcher/data/inputs/snmp
