Can someone clarify the definition of "Commercial Use" for the Reporting and Management for OSSEC app?

Hi,

Can you please clarify whether it's OK to use the app in a corporate environment? The license that's attributed with it - Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5 Generic - suggests that no commercial use is permitted. Or does that only apply to the distribution of the app?

Thanks!

Thanks for asking. Internal use in a corporate setting is generally going to be fine as long as it's not driving a revenue stream.

The CC FAQ captures the intent pretty well by saying you can't use it for purposes that are "primarily intended for or directed toward commercial advantage or monetary compensation". So for example, if you want to resell it, distribute it or modified versions under different license, or sell services based on it, then you'd need to make separate arrangements.
