Just installed splunk free on Ubuntu..can't start

Splunk seems to have installed on Ubuntu 18.04 but the only place i see it is in the /opt dir and if i try to cd to it it says no such directory exists but if i cat it it says it is a directory , any help ? i am just trying to get to know the product because we use it at work

what user is it installed under? What user are you? If you don't have permissions to get into the /opt/splunk directory, then you won't be able to get into the /opt/splunk directory.

What actual steps did you follow when you installed it?

Check to see if it installed properly using
dpkg -l | grep -i splunk

When I installed it at home on Ubuntu 18.04, I followed these instructions:
