Is there anyway to control a chart's legend size? I would like to set how many px can be used by Legend area.

There is an option to set the maximum width for the chart.legend element. You will have to edit the XML. For all details read: http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/5.0.2/Viz/CustomChartingConfig-ChartLegend#Legend
