What is the difference between the Splunk Add-on for Java Management Extensions and the Monitoring of Java Virtual Machines with JMX app?

What’s the difference between
Monitoring of Java Virtual Machines with JMX: https://splunkbase.splunk.com/app/668/
and
Splunk Add-on for Java Management Extensions: https://splunkbase.splunk.com/app/2647/

I'm trying to consume snapshots of JVM default metrics and also custom Mbeans from a java 8 remote process ( rmi jni ) basically want to consume everything I can see in Java mission control

I wrote https://splunkbase.splunk.com/app/668/ in 2010 and is to this day very widely deployed in custom production environments. It is community supported (aka me at 3am) 🙂 Years later , when the Splunk TA Factory was starting up , I shared the source code of my app so they could have their own officially Splunk supported version , https://splunkbase.splunk.com/app/2647/.

thanks Damien,
I'm going to ask the silly obvious question, if im starting afresh does that mean i should be using the splunk supported version? any features yours has that the other doesn't?

I know nothing about the capabilities of the latest Splunk supported version, so can not comment on a feature set comparison.

My version will support your use case you describe. That's about all I can say based on the information in this thread.
