Any reason this may not be compatible on newer versions of Splunk? (7.2, 7.3, 8.0) ?

You'd have to ask: @jconger. It is not a Splunk supported app. It was last touched on GitHub on Jul 26, 2018 (https://github.com/splunk/splunk-template-xendesktop-7)
