Hi,

I am creating an POC to ingest Jenkins event into Splunk and I have checked in the Splunk answers.com and found the link https://wiki.jenkins.io/display/JENKINS/Splunk+Plugin+for+Jenkins and based on document, I have gone through the steps, and downloaded the Zip file from the git repository splunk-devops-plugin-master.

I have installed and configured HEC in Splunk Enterprise 7.3.3, Jenkins-2.190.3 plugin and Splunk App for Jenkins version 2.0 in windows environment, both Jenkins/Splunk are runnning in the same machine.

Details Steps:

Installed Java 1.8 version in 64 bit Windows Platform.

Installed Jenkins-2.190.3 in 64 bit windows Platform.

Splunk Enterprise 7.3 (Single instance deployment method).

Installed Splunk App for Jenkins 2.0.

Created HEC token in splunk.

Configured Splunk plugin for Jenkins.

Test Connection --> Splunk connection Verified.

When test connection is successful and could see the raw ping event in splunk console.

12/9/19
10:04:25.036 PM ping from jenkins plugin raw event ping
host = xxxxx source = http:jenkins sourcetype = text:jenkins

In Jenkins, I have created a Project called Hello World in Java and executed the build and could see the build job status as running in Jenkins console, next tried to capture this information in Splunk APP by configuring the splunk plugin for Jenkins --> Advanced configuration --> Custom Metadata

Data Source --> Build Event
Config Item --> Index
Value --> Customer_index

Data Source --> Console Log
Config Item --> Index
Value --> Jenkins

But I am not able to any data as displayed in the screenshots? Is there any specific configuration needs to be done to get this?
Kindly guide me how to configure to get the Job status, Jenkins health status and console details in splunk console.

thanks in advance.

please simply remove the Custom Metadata configure and save, you donot need it for the app, it works out of box.

The option is for advance users who want to develop their own app and custom index/source etc

thanks txiao for quick response on this, let me remove and check whether I am able to see the Job status in splunk console or not.

Question:
1) But in real world scenario we need this app for getting some insight of Jenkins or we can do it without using this app.

2) If not then how do we configure this app to get the required information like Job Build status, Health of the Jenkins nodes.

thanks in advance.
