What are the differences between heavy forwarder (HF) and HEC?
Under which scenario is which option preferred on AWS environment and why?
Thanks.
HF is a Heavy Forwarder, a full Splunk instance that handles inputs and sends data to a Splunk Indexer
HEC - HTTP Event Collector, is a one way (among many) in which you can bring data to Splunk
in other words, HF is a machine / tool and HEC is a function of this machine / tool
HF:
https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/7.3.2/Forwarding/Typesofforwarders#Heavy_and_light_forw...
HEC:

and

Thanks Adonio.
So am I correct to say that all HTTP/S events should be collected by HEC on HF, else, for all events other than HTTP/S, HF will do the work? is there any other function of HF to collected non-HTTP/S events?
Thanks.
