How can you tell if an app will be compatible with newer versions of Splunk?

I'm working to upgrade splunk version 6.5 to 7.1, I have some apps not supported by splunk version 7 , My question is whether these unsupported applications will work anyway?

Apps concerned:

Splunk for F5 Security
Spunk for F5 Network
Splunk for Blue Coat

An old version number on the app's page only means the page has not been updated since the newer version(s) of Splunk came out. The app may work perfectly well on the new version (and most do). There are two ways to be sure: 1) ask the developer (hard to do if Splunk is the developer); and 2) try the app on your dev/test instance.
