I just installed the Windows version of the Splunk Enterprise trial for version 7.2. When I try to log in, it says to "use the username that you created during installation." But I didn't create a username during installation. What do I do now?

On Windows systems, the installation creates the admin user automatically and does not give you the opportunity to create a user. To log into the instance, use the following credentials:

Username: admin
Password: The password you created when you installed the software. If you upgraded, use the password that you used prior to the upgrade.

You have vestiges of a previous install where you previously created user = admin. Try the password changeme. If that doesn't work, the easiest way to fix it is to uninstall and then reinstall. Upon reinstall, you will be prompted to create a new admin user. Cake.
