For Splunk installer downloads I know it offers a url / wget command snippet you can copy paste, but by the looks of it, that is not provided for apps on splunkbase.

Any specific reason you need to download it directly on the DS? Can't you just download it locally and then use some SCP tool (winscp, or the scp utility that comes with the full putty install...) to copy it over to the DS?

Yes, I know that Splunk(HF, UF, enterprise ...etc) have a WGET so I can download and untar then for installation
and other Splunkbase apps don't have. The problem is we don't have a WinSCP on the environment and asking for installing a new application would take a long time due to security purposes.

That is why I'm finding the faster way to download the app from SPLUNKBASE to the deployment server.
Is there a way to do it only using PUTTY?

Perhaps you can try WinSCP portable: https://winscp.net/eng/docs/portable
Or get pscp from https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/latest.html

I've tried wgetting the url that is visible in my Chrome downloads manager, but that gives some error on key having expired, so that seems to be a one-time-only link or so.

Getting a bit more creative: any chance you can download the app and publish it somewhere else yourself (some webserver you control, or any other service that will allow you to generate a http link to download it again)?

Does your Deployment Server even have internet access?

Yes the deployment server has an access to internet , is it possible to install it from the heavy forwarder to get the folder , and send it to the other ip address
where the deployment server is located

For moving it from a HF to your DS you'd need to use similar tools as moving it from your own local desktop/laptop to the DS I guess (SCP, or whatever other file transfer mechanism is available).

Or create a network share on the HF, put the app on there and mount the network share on the DS.

Another thought: perhaps the team managing those servers can help you upload files to them?

I mean: we can get as creative as we can to work around the limitations you mention, but it sounds a bit strange that there is no defined way to get files to servers, right?

You're welcome and good luck. I know how frustrating these kinds of limitations can be 🙂
