Hi I am trying to send logs files from Linux system to Splunk Indexers, is there a way to configure the syslog to do this? If so, how to do it?
Additionally, if older Linux uses Syslog, newer uses Rsyslog, can Syslog still send over to Rsyslog flexibly?
Hi Kitteh,
Sure, you can send syslog to Splunk, read this link please http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/latest/Data/HowSplunkEnterprisehandlessyslogdata
But, read this link http://www.georgestarcher.com/splunk-success-with-syslog/ as well, because there are some pitfalls sending syslog directly to Splunk.
Regarding the syslog and rsyslog question: if I understand it correctly you can send syslog to rsyslog and have rsyslog send the logs to Splunk. But again, better option is to have Splunk read the logs rsyslog is writing.
Hope this helps to get you started ...
cheers, MuS
