why is there no time selector dropdown for the dashboard "edit" box?

Hello. I noticed that with the dashboard "new panel" and also "edit panel" dialog boxes, there is no dropdown for selecting the time range [?]

Is this expected? If it is I would suggest something be added because as it is it is super confusing "what do I put in those fields"? for beginners.

Yes, it is expected. I doubt that a drop-down time selector would work, though, as dashboard developers want the ability to set the search ranges to any custom setting.

But I like your suggestion. I would think that a link to "Learn More" would be a good idea for dashboard panels - similar to what is done for saving searches.

Although I am not a person who could decide to make such a change ...

This was true until Splunk 6 - now you can easily add a timerange picker to a dashboard using the Dashboard Editor and simple XML.

The dashboard timerange picker applies only to inline searches. Also, the panels that contain the searches must not specify time ranges.
