Tried to apply new developer license after instance went to free license.
Got
Bad Request — Splunk.License: failed to add because: cannot add lic w/ subgroupId=DevTest:xxxx@xxx.com to stack w/ subgroupId=Production
Looked in answers for an idea

reset it back to enterprise then tried again but get the same error.
Where do I go from here.
Try removing the old license first
Get hash value for old license ./splunk list licenses
Remove old license ./splunk remove licenses [hash from your license]
restart splunk
Install new one as you tried to do before
