Splunk Search

How do I migrate my configuration (dahsboard, alerts, fields, etc) to a new Splunk instance?

I migrated the database "splunk/var/lib/splunk" but when I copy my configuration files, the fields and alerts disappeared. How can I keep those?

I have not tried this previously, but you could give this a try. Stop splunk services on all instances. :

  1. Make all the configurations in the current instance (before migration) as global with permission to everyone
  2. Clone the default search app to a new app (search_abc)
  3. Move the config files to the cloned app
  4. Once you have moved those to the cloned app, clone the default search app to search_abc (make sure you keep the name same)
  5. Copy the contents of the search_abc from old instance to new instance
  6. Start Splunk instance
