Splunk Answers - comment or answer, how to follow-up comments

Hi, i have been having this query for a long time.. should we comment or answer,
if we comment, how to follow-up?

yesterday @niketnilay suggested -
if you are seeking further details or are unsure of the answer provided it is better to add a comment rather than Answer.

to tell you clearly,
when i reply as a comment
generally, as i login to splunk answers, i will see the list of questions on the 1st page, try to answer if anything looks my area, or interesting.
most of the time we may need more details from the requester.
lets say i ask that thru a comment.
and often, the people who ask questions may not reply fast. they may reply after a day or two.
i see no way of following up for my comments.

when i reply as an answer:
when i login after 2 or 3 days, if i go to my profile, on my answers, i can check what questions i recently i answered, then i can recall them and followup(i can check the more info requested from the user, reply, etc).

Please suggest how you guys follow-up your "comments"

@inventsekar, you can follow up on commented questions by using Followed Questions which is listed way towards the bottom of your Profile with top 5 questions. When you comment on a question or answer, you automatically follow that question as well (or you can explicitly click on the Follow button).

Similar to Answers tab there is a "Followed Questions" tab as well. Which you can use to look for all unanswered questions that you are following, or Newest questions being followed.

Based on your reply as an answer scenario, if you step into a user's shoes who is facing some issue, if you answer the question right away with some follow up questions, other Splunkers in the community might not attend to the question for 2-3 days until you are back on Splunk Answers thinking that there is already an answer to the question.

On the other hand if you just add a comment with your follow-up questions, it is highly likely that the user will respond back with further required details withing 2-3 days and since the question remains unanswered, someone else in the community may be able to assist in timely manner.

I feel that Splunk Answers is "Gamified" only with the intent of resolving Splunk issues faster with point based rewards to Splunkers as an outcome of the same. My suggestion on your answer was based on the Community guidelines for best answers: http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunkbase/splunkbase/Answers/Questions. But you can adopt any approach based on your convenience as far as the problem gets resolved.

One request for Splunk Answer Support Team though, if there was an enhanced search in Splunk Answers, to search only the Questions in specific tabs like Answers, Questions, Followed Questions, it would have made our lives easier to follow up of find specific questions at a later point of time. For example a question which was answered with a workaround last year may be solved with a simpler approach due to latest enhancement to Splunk, it becomes tough to find that question from last year in the Answers tab.
