Hi everyone:
I seem to be experiencing an issue where all apps using Google Maps API outputs the following error:
Error in 'script': Getinfo probe failed for external search command 'geoip'
I assume this is because my splunk server does not have direct access to the internet.
I setup my splunk server to gain external access to the splunk base via Proxy Server.
Is there any way to setup the google apps app to do this?
Let me know.
Thanks.
Brian
All communication with google servers happens from the client browser in the google maps app. So your Splunk server doesn't require internet access. The geoip command uses a local file-based Maxmind database. This seems to be a different problem. Are you using the latest version?
Hello, I know this is an old thread, but I had the same exact errors. My issue was that my time zone was set to "arizona" (showed up as "america/dawson_creek"). I changed it to "default" and geo_ip started working as advertised. Just wanted to add this as a potential solution.

Ziegfried,
I have the following installed:
Google Maps
Google Maps for Splunk
Version: 1.1.1
Last updated: 05/29/12
Latest version installed
Geo Location Lookup Script (powered by MAXMIND)
Version: 1.0.6
Last updated: 06/10/11
Latest version installed
I see that the issue is actually with the Chrome browser. I am not having the issue with Firefox.
So I will just mention to Splunk Support that the Google Maps API does not work well on it's own browser 😄
Thanks.
Brian
