I'm looking for some software to write technical documentation and as a Splunk user always liked the Splunk Docs look and feel.
Was wondering if PonyDocs is still the tool for that, since apparently there is no updates to the project since Dec 2014.
Has anyone recently installed and configured Ponydocs?
Hello! Yes, Splunk still uses Ponydocs.
All of Splunk's development work for Ponydocs takes place in the Github repo: https://github.com/splunk/ponydocs. As you can see, the latest commit there (at the time I am writing this) was on December 14, 2016. Perhaps you read that label wrong?
Another company that uses Ponydocs for their documentation is Genesys. They took a fork of the project some time ago (years), and have developed some features of their own. There are discussions underway right now between Splunk and Genesys to find a way to merge the code and have the open source repo reflect the latest developments from both companies.

Thanks a lot for this answer. Yes I think I read that label wrong 🙂
I tried to install Ponydocs on wikimedia 1.24.1 (which I could figure out was the version splunk docs uses based on the page source) but for some reason I could not figure out yet, things are not working right for me.
It looks like a problem loading the skin. I will keep trying to make it work 🙂
https://github.com/splunk/ponydocs/blob/master/INSTALL.md should have step-by-step instructions for getting ponydocs working (but YMMV, it's not at all as easy as it should be).
There's also a ponydocs chat room in Slack (https://splunk-usergroups.slack.com/, request an account at http://splunk402.com/chat/) that might be able to provide interactive support.
