Splunk Search

My search displays numeric values in results, but why not string values?

I have the following search

sourcetype=ivrdata | eval {message}=varValue | stats first(LogTimestamp) as Time values(Network) as Network values(Phone) as Phone values(Tower) as Tower values(Platform) as Platform values(Province) as Province by IVR_SessionID

For some reason, it only displays values that contain integers. Any varValue="string" is not displayed. Any ideas?
