Hello Everyone,
I am using a ubuntu 11.04 and i am very new to UBUNTU. Please help me to install splunk in my PC.
I read the first time installtion but i am not able to do the same. I have installed the .tar file and what should be the next step to follow?
regards,
Krishna
I primarily run Splunk on Ubuntu 11.04 (on VMs on my laptop).
The deb installer is probably the best way to go.
But it is just as easy to unpack the tarball to a directory of your choice and run it from there.
tar xvf splunk-4.3.1-119532-Linux-i686.tgz
cd splunk/bin
./splunk start --accept-license
Then browse to http://localhost:8000
Install docs here , scroll down to the "tarball install" section
If you're new to Ubuntu the best to go is probably to a forum covering Ubuntu.
That said, Splunk has .deb installation files for Debian/Ubuntu available. At http://www.splunk.com/download check the ones that have ".deb" at the end. These can be installed right away with a package manager in Ubuntu.
