Upgrade to 4.3: AttributeError: 'str' object has no attribute 'os_startIndex'

After an upgrade from 4.2.4 to 4.3 on Windows 2008 R2 Server (64bit) I get the following error after the login:

500 Internal Server Error
Return to Splunk home page


AttributeError: 'str' object has no attribute 'os_startIndex'


You are using 10.41.5.22:8000, which is connected to splunkd @115073 at https://127.0.0.1:8089 on Thu Jan 19 10:43:44 2012.

Please help

No. 500 Internal Server Error.

I found a workaround for that problem - see

Is this logging you directly into an app?

Would someone please fix this f##### issue in that RSS section of entity.py and compile that file again.
