i had the enterprise trial installed on my computer and the trial ended, so i downloaded the free version and installed it. if i go on the server where splunk was installed, i can access and maneuver through splunk just fine, but if i try to access splunk through my web page on a different computer, i can't get passed the login screen. it keeps telling me that my username and/or password is incorrect and it's showing up as still being the enterprise trial version, although i've even checked in my programs to see that it is no longer installed. going by the server splunk is installed on, it appears to be on the same port as the previous (enterprise trial) version. the server is windows 2008 64 bit and was running the previous version without issue. any help would be greatly appreciated.

i went ahead and deleted all of the cache in Firefox as well as IE and it still shows up as being the Enterprise Trial Version.

always worth a try... a lot of issues can be fixed with a clearing of the cache (in general not just with Splunk).... Other than that I am baffled, as have not come across this issue before. I apologize for in-assistance. If you or someone else figures the answer, I would be interested in knowing,

Did you restart the services (splunkd and splunkweb) after applying the change to license?

It's odd that it still displays the old info.. have cleared the cache from your web browser as well?

To clarify....

Do you have two machines (one, your PC, the other, a server running Win Server 2008...)? Your Enterprise License ran out on the server, and you then installed an instance of Splunk on you PC?

If so, you should have the machines
using different ports (for best
practice, even if they are separate by
IP addresses), and then there should be no issue. You can do this with the following commands

"splunk set web-port <port>" & "splunk set splunkd-port <port>"

You should be able to login, if the
license has expired you normally get a
message in the top message bar and
list of licensing options, of which a
free license is the choice (have you
tried the default login/pword
"admin/changeme"). If you have forgotten the admin password, you try this.

Or you have one machine and tried to install another instance of Splunk onto it?

If so, Windows can only handle having one installation per machine. If you unistalled everything correctly, and re-installed, you should use default admin password. Splunk will default to using port 8000 and 8089, however if it detects those ports are used, it should advise this during installation.

thank you for the response. i have the Splunk Enterprise Trial installed on the Server running 2008. I installed the free version on the server running 2008 and it takes me to the main page of Splunk where I can add data and so forth, but if I try to access Splunk through the web page on my PC (different computer all together from the Server running 2008) it shows as I'm still trying to login to the Enterprise Trial Version.
