I have a dashboard that displays system status on a wall monitor. It is set to autorefresh every 2 minutes. However, if the Splunk session is lost -- e.g., if the network or the Splunk server goes down for a while -- the browser logs out and someone has to manually click the login button (or every reenter the password).
How do I avoid this?
If the Splunk server goes down you will have to log back in. There are probably a bunch of browser extensions out there that will do it for you, a quick google should do the trick.
If you just lose network connectivity you shouldn't have to log back in if your session has not yet expired. Have a look here: http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/6.2.0/admin/Configureusertimeouts
Splunk's alerting capabilities are also pretty good - I would consider building alerts and only using dashboards for actual investigation (although every good NOC needs a big wall monitor for management :))
