ERROR:
Bad Request — In handler 'localslave': editTracker failed, reason='unable to contact master=https://:8000'

tried various syntax but it wont connect. Is it a big issue that my new install is the most current however the master server is at 4.1.5, build 85165?

Wait a minute. 4.1 did not have centralized licensing. It is impossible for a 4.1.x server to be a license master.

Use https and specify the management port.
