Stopping the server during index

Is it correct to assume that if you restart the server while indexing log files, the server will resume where it stopped, or will the rest of the file currently indexing be lost?

If you properly shutdown the server, the server will restart where it left off.

If you crash the server, the it will do its best to start in the correct location.
