Can't add input for rest_ta, Your entry was not saved. The following error was reported: SyntaxError: JSON Parse error: Unrecognized token

Using the rest_ta Rest API input app version 1.3.6. with enterprise splunk 6.2 I always get this error when defining the input:
Your entry was not saved. The following error was reported: SyntaxError: JSON Parse error: Unrecognized token '<'.

The server is CentOS 6.5. Any help is much appreciated.

Problem solved...for me anyway. A JSON browser extension for viewing formatted JSON responses was getting in the way. Once I disabled that extension worked like charm.
