Clarification needed for Splunk DB Connect 2 prereq of Splunk Enterprise version 6.1.x or higher

I would like to use DB Connect 2 to forward database events to my Splunk servers. I'm currently running Splunk servers version < 6.1
Will it be adequate for me to install DB Connect 2 on my 6.2 heavy forwarders or is it somehow a hard and fast requirement (known issues) with forwarding the data to Splunk servers < 6.1?

A heavy forwarder is basically just Splunk Enterprise that forwards events. You can definitely install DB Connect 2 on a heavy forwarder and forward the events to Splunk servers (or even third party systems, if that tickles your fancy)
