How to upgrade Splunk from 6.1.3 to 6.1.4 on Ubuntu?

We installed Splunk about 1 month ago and need to update to the latest version. I am fairly new at my job and am having issues updating the application. I downloaded the splunk6.1.4.rpm file from Splunk's download page, but how do I update the application? I tried:

sudo rpm -Uvh splunk6.1.4.rpm //yes I did change the file name

this gave me error when I ran it from my home directory and from /opt/splunk. Any ideas or a point in the right direction for documentation would be great.

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS

You don't (shouldn't) use RPM on Ubuntu. Use the Debian package and dpkg/apt.

Thanks for the help. I have been working in Linux for 1 month so far and am still learning all of these little things.
