Java SDK: Are there installation instructions for people without Java experience?

The only thing I know about Java is I drink it in the morning and that it is the name of the main island of Indonesia.

The instructions for installing the Java SDK make as much sense to me as reading and understanding cuneiform. After I managed to get the SDK and Ant installed I ran Ant and was sharply told that build.xml did not exist. Well I found a copy at GitHub but when I tried again I got this error:

S:\splunk-sdk-java>ant
Buildfile: S:\splunk-sdk-java\build.xml
BUILD FAILED
S:\splunk-sdk-java\build.xml:2: Already seen doctype.

Total time: 0 seconds

I have no idea what that means. Are there any instructions for those who don't know anything about Java, Ant and all the rest. The documentation here at Splunk isn't at all helpful.

Hopefully, someone out there will be...

Thanks

Hi there,

Did you download the SDK using the green Download button on the Java SDK doc pages, or from GitHub? I just realized that the download was the completely wrong file, and corrected the situation.

I just installed the latest JDK, the latest Ant, and the latest SDK. Everything built successfully. Please try again. So sorry for the inconvenience!

Thanks,
