Can we insert a screenshot of a dashboard in the alert? i want to include a screenshot of a dashboard in a report email

There is a topic in the Alerting Manual that documents how to schedule PDF delivery of a dashboard. It's not a screen shot, will it meet your needs?

Note that the PDF server app is not the same thing as integrated PDF generation. It is an older, separate download that was replaced by integrated PDF generation in Splunk Enterprise 6.0. It is now deprecated.

The pdf server app uses a cobbled together xvfb/firefox/pdf generator. It might be possible to mod that app and make it just create the splunk-report.png instead of the pdf.

In the pdfserver/bin/pdfserver.py file there is some default options set which could be overridden using output=png instead of the default output=pdf option.

I've tried this but I can't figure out where the file gets temporarily created so I can grab it. I'm guessing the output is not actually saved anywhere and actually piped into the email as the attachment.

Okay. I don't know how to do that...I think you would have to do something fancier than I know. Scripted alerts (http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/6.1.2/Alert/Configuringscriptedalerts) will enable you to trigger a shell script or batch file, so maybe you could script something to grab the image and email it when your alert conditions occur?
