forwarder monitor a log file but only get "splunk-cooked-mode-v3"?

Hi All,

I installed a splunk server and 4 splunk forwarder, and add monitor for an always updating file.

But I can get any usefule information in the splunk server. There are many "splunk-cooked-mode-v3":

If you want to learn about Splunk data forwarding:

Per default a Splunk Forwarder is sending data to port 9997 on a Splunk Indexer.

This connection is a legacy format called "Splunk-2-Splunk" to optimize data transfer.

As Martin mentioned you have to setup the Indexer correctly to receive data.

Enable receiving on the indexer:

inputs.conf
[splunktcp:9997]

And tell the UF in outputs.conf to send to 9997.

It seems your input on the indexer is [tcp:8001], which does not understand UF's cooked data.

did you try changing the port for your input as suggested? not sure if you need to restart.
