This will happen when Splunk is unable to load the python in the Field Extractor App.
There are three causes of this:

  • A) Running an old version of Splunk.
    Update to 4.2.

  • B) Running an old version of Field
    Extractor. Update to the latest.

  • C) Unpacking the app on a Windows
machine, and then moving it to a unix
    deployment. Unpacking on Windows
will inserts \r into the python and
it won't load properly. Don't unpack apps on different platforms.

Same Problem:
Splunk 5.0.2
ufx 1.4
Installation of the App over Manager->Apps->Install App From File-> ufx.spl
(I deleted the old version of ufx, which had the same problem, bevor the installation (inklusive Splunk restart))
Some idea how to fix or further troubleshoot the problem?

Thx in advance
(by the way: Congrats on the great book! 🙂
