Is it possible to install single splunk enterprise license version on multiple machines or for multiple users

Hello,

I have one question is it possible to install splunk enterprise licensed version on multiple machines ?
My organization is planning to purchase Splunk enterprise 6.0 and I am not sure will it be for single user licence or for single machine .Please suggest....

There is no such thing as a single-user license, as far as I know. As of version 4.2(?), there is a mechanism within Splunk, that allows several instances to share a single license, i.e. one of the instances is designated as the 'license master', and the other Splunk servers connect to the license master to report on license usage.

There is normally no such thing as a dev or test license (i.e. that is cheaper). What you do is that you install Splunk on one server and install the license there. Then, when you install the second (third, fourth..) Splunk server, you configure it to point to the first server for licensing. This is done in Settings -> Licensing, click the "change to slave" button and fill in the details.

This requires that they're allowed to communicate with each other, which may not be the case in every organization.

That means if I install Splunk enterprise 6.0 on one server and treat it as a master , we can make slaves from the same instance to different machines (Then i don't need different license for slaves correct..?).
Another query what you can suggest for dev server if license already has been purchased for Prod server.I don't want to install 60 days trial version on dev server....
