You can sign what is called a "Splunk Powered Associate" agreement, where there is an exchange of information, a referral program and the right to do that. If you're interested, our partner d00dz should be able to help.

Glad you all enjoy your Splunk Free!

Generally no, we don't allow third parties to distribute our software. There are a variety of reasons for this, but most pressing are viral license agreements and an inability to keep the bits current.

As mentioned to dome in their docs post, if you want more information you can contact me at my screen name at splunk dot com.

WRT to the license agreement, the one you accept in the click-wrap of the download is authoritative. It does not allow you to distribute. I believe I found the legacy EULA vaijpc found in the docs; we'll fix that promptly. Thanks for the heads up.

Short answer is... "I don't know."

Long answer... the license on the website and the license in %SPLUNK_HOME%/license-eula.txt don't match.

As an example:

In the file:

FREE SOFTWARE LICENSE. Subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement, Splunk grants to You a non-exclusive, worldwide, fully-paid up copyright license to use the Free Splunk Software in binary form only and only subject to the following conditions:

On the website:

FREE SOFTWARE LICENSE. Subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement, Splunk grants to You a non-exclusive, worldwide, fully-paid up copyright license to use, copy, and distribute the Free Splunk Software in binary form only and only subject to the following conditions:

In particular, notice the difference between "use" and "use, copy, and distribute". Those rights are still tied up in further "following conditions" though so even if you are following the website's license, don't count your chickens until you've read the license you've agreed to.

EDIT: ... and evaluated it together with the licenses in your "linux distro" to see if they allow you to distribute them together.

I've asked Splunk about this and am waiting for a reply.
