Display Icons in table as range states (low, high, severe...) in advanced XML using Sideviews Utils

Hi all,

I am currently looking for a way using Sideview Utils to display icon states inside a SimpleResultsTable or Table module.

The app "Splunk 6 Dashboards Examples" provides 2 nice ways to achieve this using Simple XML, like:

Or:

alt text

The first method uses the inline search command to define ranges (| range) in a dedicated field wich is especially interesting...

I've searched here and here and found several answers to that question but quite old or mentionning upcoming Sideview Utils versions.

Ex: http://answers.splunk.com/answers/63702/custom-icon-in-table

I massively use Sideview Utils (because it's definitively very cool and essential 🙂 and avdanced XML, using simple XML would require many work...

In my opinion, this is something people often ask, this is very easy to see instantly what is bad and good in table using this kind of behavior.
If Sideview provides a key technique for that, it would be perhaps a good idea to include an example in Sideview apps.

Thank you in advance for your help!

If you use Sideview Utils this is relatively easy. Since Sideview Utils 2.2 (10/2012), there has been a module called "Table" that has a feature called "Table embedding". Essentially you can embed an arbitrary subtree of Sideview XML view config within the table, and it will render that module config within the corresponding table cells. The most common use case is just to table-embed a single HTML module, and the most common goal people have, is to put icons into their table cells. 😃

btw, if you're looking in "Manage apps" and its telling you that you have Sideview Utils 1.3.5 and that it is the latest version, I'm afraid it only knows about the versions hosted on Splunkbase itself... For many years now you can only get the latest Sideview Utils from our site - http://sideviewapps.com/apps/sideview-utils/

Hi,

Not really, i finally could not get it to work in advanced, and finally i've done it very easily in simple XML and django views (web framework)

This also has many many advantages in comparison with advanced, and i would highly recommend it.

Moreover that with the incredible amount of great work from Splunk's dev for 6.1 Version, this is much better and much more easy than ever!

Really not sure how I missed this question. Maybe it wasn't tagged with the app tag until more recently. Anyway, Sideview Utils did actually have this feature back in late 2013, and it definitely had a specific docs page with docs and examples just on it. Possibly you were on the old 1.3.6 build that you can get from Splunkbase, which is ancient, rather than the latest from the Sideview site.

The feature is called "Table Embedding", and the main category of usage people get out of it is precisely this - putting icons into tables. Here's another related post. http://answers.splunk.com/answers/306908/how-to-add-icons-to-a-table-in-splunk-5.html

Up Up 🙂 Anyone ?

I've tried converting these views into Advanced XML, the view works but not icon addition, i guess the JS code needs to be adapted to work into Advanced...trying to!
