do you access to the search-head to retrieve the index-servers info?

No. You get it from the master. Look at cluster/master/peers endpoint here http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/6.0/RESTAPI/RESTcluster#cluster.2Fmaster.2Fpeers
