error message "cannot overwrite exisitng app object" while trying to edit permission of a view

I have created a new app (using the GUI and barebone template). Now I (the admin user) have created a view within this new app and would like to share with other users. When I try to edit permission for this view, I get an error message "Cannot overwrite existing app object"

I tired to manually edit metadata (the local.meta file of the new app reference folder), still of no joy.

Any help will be appreciated.

Got it resolved. It was actually the file level permission within the operating system. We have installed splunk on windows server 2012 and the default permission for the apps folder wasn't appropriate. Not sure why the default behaviors is like this. What I had to do is to give "SYSTEM" full control on the apps folder and it worked! If you have installed splunk service to run under a different account than the local systems, then you have give full control access to the folder to that account.

Also, if you have a object with the same name you will get this error. Like a report and alert with the same name.

The other message I get it (when trying to change permission from manager is:

Splunk could not update permissions for resource data/ui/views [HTTP 500] Splunkd internal error; [{'code': None, 'type': 'ERROR', 'text': "In handler 'views': Could not find writer for: /nobody/custom_apps/views/user_activity [0] [D:\Program Files\Splunk\etc]"}]
