Upgraded to 6 and the login page for splunk-web is broken

I did an inplace upgrade on my test system and the login works, but the CSS or HTML is broken in some way. I checked out the known issues and didn't see anything for this upgrade from 5 - 6.

To describe the login page now, there is the dark grey background but the login fields are justified hard left vs being center and are plain text input boxes. Even after logging in for the first time, I still see the first time logging in message for admin and changeme. There is no Splunk logo.

All minor issues and of course this was my test system so no worries. Just wanted to put this out there.

I saw this here at .conf and the issue for me was that another app (specifically the mobile app) was subsuming the login.css. We renamed it and did a refresh and it my issue was resolved. I subsequently removed the mobile app.

Make sure that some other app you have installed is not taking over for the new core services/html/css.

Ever find a fix? This is happening for me too.

All instances of this issue that I know about can be traced to the issue described in tyronetv's answer above.

Does it look like this?

More than likely you have the mobile app installed which has a login screen that is taking precedence.

This sounds similar (if not identical) to a problem I saw someone run into here at .conf. He was upgrading a win32 system and saw similar symptoms. When we started digging in, we found that the HTML that was being returned from the GET to /en-US/account/login was the HTML that was appropriate for 5.0.5, not for 6.0.

Could you use firebug, or chrome developer tools to copy/paste the first 20 or so lines that are being returned from that GET in the network trace?

Sounds like the javascript minifier issue.

You can try this :
1 - delete the web cache on the server (the splunk search-head)
by emptying the folder $SPLUNK_HOME/var/run/splunk/appserver/
2 - restart splunk
3 - clear the cache on the browser
4 - retry the page

If this fails, open the browser "developpers tools" or other bugzilla, and look at the javascript errors when the page load.

I tried this, however it does not resolve the issue. I'll check the dev tools in chrome and see what happens there.

It's definitely not a browser cache issue. I tried three out of the four major ones with the same results.

More specific information since I didn't include this: This was an upgrade in place on Ubuntu 13 64bit. I used the deb packages from the splunk download site and ran the splunk command from bash to accept the EULA.

Other than the HTML issues on the login page, most everything else seems to be working. There are occasions where Chrome believes the page has taken too long to respond, or actually crashes on the page, but it seems to recover.

Did you make sure to flush caches in your web browser before doing this? It's possible that it used some cached data from the old login page.
