I have a solution for this problem: It consist of 2 files - textarea.js, textarea.css which You add to your application appserver/static folder. In your dashboard definition you add 'script="textarea.js" stylesheet="textarea.css">' to your root element (for example in the first line). I've run into the same problem today. In my custom SimpleSplunkView I've that's its receiving data from the search, but it said 'No search set'. Strange but my guess would be that the initialization of the search takes some time and it's still not initialized when the view is starting to initialize, so it initialize method returns 'No search set'. I've found few solutions to this problem. One is to move search to django/xml definition, so we can have a handler to it after it's initialized. Other solution I've managed to get running is to create the custom view after the search is initialized Im using underscore _.once() method to call this function only once, but it could be also if check to see if the view was created. Or maybe there is a better handler, I haven't found it yet. searchResults.on('search:done', _.once(function() { var swimlaneView = new SwimlaneView({ name: "mycustomview", managerid: "sla1_query", el: $("#swimlane_view") }).render(); }));

The problem with this code is in this part: var ids = new String("$myTextValue$"); When i do : var ids = new String("1,2,3,4"); then i get an object which is not string. It's because I'm doing a string object out of a string object which is wrong approach - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5750656/whats-the-point-of-new-stringx-in-javascript for reference. So instead of doing this try just: var ids = $myTextValue$;

I'd start from testing if this function goes in to first and second if. So please try something like: if (cell.field === 'PrimaryRunning') { console.log('found primaryrunning cell'); if (cell.value === 'YES') { console.log('value = yes, adding class'); } else if (cell.value === 'NO') { console.log('value = no, adding class); } else { console.log('value = ' + cell.value); } } Btw i've noticed that there was value = parseFloat(cell.value) in Your code, and then You are comparing this float against strings 'YES' / 'NO'? This will always evaluate to false.

How do You check splunkjs version? I can check mine (I have splunk 6.3) and tell if it's 1.2.

You are right, but I didn't say that You must. Judging that link from http://dev.splunk.com/view/webframework-developapps/SP-CAAAEWR doesn't work I have some mixed feelings. You can try searching your splunk 6.3 installation (/opt/splunk/share/splunk/search_mrsparkle/exposed/js/build/splunkjs) for splunkjs - maybe it is the 1.2

How are You hiding these charts? And how/where do You set chart height? There are few ways for re-rendering the charts or managing their attributes, but You have to use splunkjs to get to them. In example type this in javascript console: get the list of splunk elements (to get the chart): splunkjs.mvc.Components.getInstanceNames(); get Your chart: var chart = splunkjs.mvc.Components.getInstance('example-chart'); hide chart: chart.hide(); show chart: chart.show(); change chart height: chart.settings.set('height', 600);

You can change the cache parameter of the search from the simplexml. To do this attach the js to your root dashboard / form element in the simplexml file: <dashboard script="test.js"> Also add the id to Your search: <search id="mysearch"> Then create the script file named test.js in your appdirectory/appserver/static/test.js require([ "splunkjs/mvc", "splunkjs/mvc/simplexml/ready!" ], function(mvc, ignore) { // grab the mysearch handler: var mysearch = mvc.Components.getInstance('mysearch') // set cache to 900 mysearch.set('cache', 900); // print cache value to console console.log(mysearch.get('cache')); }); This works for splunk 6.3 - with the added scrpit id attribute. Without this You'd have to get search id (maybe with method mvc.Components.getInstanceNames(). More reliable would be building your dashboard using JavaScript. Inspecting this issue I've noticed, that refreshing or changing the search will also refresh all the elements linked to it. For example if I have chart with managerid set to a search, i can easily redraw this chart by grabbing the search and refreshing it with for example .startSearch() method. It would all depend on the data and your needs. I have tailored a simple example of html dashboard which would change the search string for searchManager and by doing so it will redraw the chart corresponding to it. How are You changing this managerid value? Can You give more details - how these searches are different? It would be easier to change search string or add PostProcessManager than changing the whole manager.

You can add search bar using SearchBarView either using django bindings (not recomended since it's marked as deprecated - http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/6.3.0/ReleaseNotes/Deprecatedfeatures) or javascript. I would try different approach for getting td position. Since the table is not rendered yet (we are in the setup stage) I'd rather use cell.index. So instead of var tdPosition = $td.parent().children().index($td[0]); I would use: var tdPosition = cell.index; We can even go further and render custom classes only for the columns which are not first.
