Dashboards & Visualizations

What dashboard visualizations do people recommend to show if the status of servers is up or down?

Hi,

I know Splunk isn't meant for this exact use case, but we have a customer who has dashboards with all their server metrics coming in plus alerting so all good. They would like something more traditional on their dashboards though that shows whether their servers are up or down at a glance. A classic green or red type situation.

Wondering if any one know of an app for this or some method of green graphics for the servers that change color when they go down. Currently my 'go down' searches are just that they haven't been heard of at all for 5 minutes.

All I've seen so far is cell based coloring in a table but wanted to see if there was anything else.

Thanks.

I used the below approach to show the RAG status of a server :

http://blogs.splunk.com/tag/traffic-light/ - Use the CSS and traffic light images from here and then couple them with a flag CSV to which will get updated on the basis of your conditions for e.g.

Flag CSV (Value 0 Green, Value 1 Amber, Value 2 Red)

Server 1

Disk Space >95% --->edit Flag CSV to say Server 1 = 2

When the value of CSV is 2, display traffic light red. Similarly do for other conditions like memory, CPU etc.

FYI - Splunk ITSi will provide this functionality. Stay tuned to .conf this year for more information!

Cool I got in there and grabbed a bunch of new stuff from the dashboard examples app so thanks for that. Do you know how to switch off the big xml preview pane that now appears at the bottom of my pages since installing the dashboard examples app? Thanks again.
