It appears that several folks are having compatibility issues after upgrading to version 6. Is there a matrix of existing applications that work in 6? I'm contemplating an upgrade in production environment but worried that existing apps, (S.O.S, Deployment Monitoring, App for Windows, Sideview Utils and others) will break. Thanks in advance.
Do yourself a favour and spin up a virtual test system replicating (as much as possible) your production system. Just dump a copy of some recent logs on the box and feed them in, then upgrade and see if everything still works as you expect... Upgrading your prod box without testing first is asking for trouble IMO. 🙂
That's what I've done, and I think I'll be waiting a while before doing our main production box, although I just deployed a new regional box as version 6 because they don't need Sideview Utils and the like.
Do have a test environment but was expecting a smoother upgrade, albeit this is a major release. Think I will wait to upgrade production as well.
There is no current matrix to show this, however all of the apps on apps.splunk.com that are supported on Splunk 6 will have that noted on the app page.
S.O.S - yes, Deployment monitor - yes, Sideview - yes, App for Windows - updated as of today 10/14. http://apps.splunk.com/app/272/
As you can see in the screenshot, you can filter for apps based on compatibility with Splunk version 6.
Sideview Utils 2.X as well as the much older 1.3.X versions all work on splunk 6. There were a few days where 1.3 wasn't marked as compatible, but it does actually work fine with no bugs reported so far (except the bugs I found and fixed during the betas)
Thanks. Will look out for Windows App.
FWIW, I've used Sideview 2.2.5 under Splunk 6 with no noticeable detrimental effects.
